Default Surging temperature needle

Car began to overheat this morning and i immediately through the heat on high which then alleviated the problem a bit(temp was a little bit higher than midpoint) but as i would drive and hit 2000rpms the needle would surge higher but at 3000rpms it would drop back down to about normal...

When i got the chance to pop my hood i noticed that there was spots on antifreeze on the top part of my tranny under my heater hose inlet as seen in pic:

Would the leak cause the car to overheat?

Did air get into my system which would cause the surges?

TIA

the temp will start to fluctuate when you are running low on coolant, possible you have a small leak somewhere? What is your coolant level like.

Sounds like you are too low on coolant... you most likely have a leak some where and the coolant just got too low. My car had the exact same symptoms when my waterpump was leaking all my coolant out.

You can just keep filling up the coolant for a temporary solution, until you figure out where the leak is coming from and fix it.

I noticed a leak under my heater inlet hose, so i assume if I reclamp it and refill my coolant, I will be ok?

Thanx guys for the quick responses!
