i know this sounds like a newb question but would it be a bad idea to paint my valve cover with a paint that is not an engine enamel. i bought it from an auto store and it is a flourescent paint but im not sure if it can withstand the heat or not. whats the worst that could happen. thanks for any help

The worst that can happen is it can melt off and make a mess or crack and look like crap...

It's probably a bad idea to paint your valve cover a fluorescent color whether it can handle the heat or not.

Like the gentleman said, the worst is you make a mess and it looks terrible. If you're going to go through the trouble, it's worth it to do it right the first time.

I just had a look at your ride and it's pretty sweet. I was expecting a rice monster.
I think you're heading down a dark path with the fluorescent paint. Good luck.

the only can i could find with the color i want was a flourescent color. oh well i guess we'll see how it turns out and then if all goes bad just re-do with a more "normal" color. i just haven't seen this PhAt JDM C0l0r on a valve cover before. its all kinda fun and games. ill at least post the aftermath for a few laughs

i was told just today that if ur painting any component that is seceptible to heat (valve cover, brake calipers, exc.) you have to use high temp paint or it will be off in a couple days. The guy who told me this is the service manager at a major car dealership, (i also work there) and he has delt with this issue in the past

so go with the high temp paint

I used regular car body paint.....not 500 degree paint or even 1200 degree paint....peep...


its some OEM chrysler color.....bought the lil can at AUTOZNE for like 4.99........painted it last summer, and its been through hell!! NO CRACKS, no bubbles...nothing.....look smooth and clean..
