Default Subframe brace on my 99 civic?

I had a question, i stripped down my car (99 em1) and i realized there was a STOCK subframe brace that was located inside the car right by the gas tank. I was wondering if it was SAFE to take it out? I'm not sure if the car will flex if it was taken out. If anyone knows let me know. Thanks! I'll post pictures of the subframe brace asap.

Weight reduction. I'm pretty sure it;s about 50lbs or so.
