Stumped. . .
Ive got a 93 civic sedan, d15b7 motor, 5spd. The car cranks, but it will not turn on or turn over(depending on how you see it). Has plenty of fuel getting to it, no exhaust leaks/blocks, and all 4 cylinders spark. It will however turn over if you spray "jet fuel" into to it, it was my girls dad that sprayed it in, i guess its a carb starter. im pretty much stumped as to why it wont turn over. any idea?

Let's establish this first:
Will the engine actually spin over, or is it not even trying to spin over?
There is a diffference which will completely change the type of diagnosis you'd start with.

Yes, your post is a little confusing. If the starter engages and the motor is being turned thats cranking. If thats the case but it won't start, thats one issue. Just because gas is getting to the fuel rail, does not mean its getting into the cylinders. Things to check: Timing, Injectors.
I say this because if dad sprays the jet fuel in and it fires, your obviously getting spark, but not fuel. Have you attempted to change the timing belt? If so did you make sure you got the timing correct. If its an old belt has it slipped due to streatching or missing teeth thus messing the timing up. With this, we're thinking that the injectors may be firing, but at the worng time and the gas misture is exhusted before the spark can set it off. If the timeing is OK, the are the injectors firing??

Well I guess we all have different verbage when it comes to explaining/discussing engines.
From my point of view the term "cranking" means an engine runs. If "it cranks" then that to me means that the engine fires up and runs.
If the starter engages and the engine spins over then to me that means exactly what it sounds like - the engine literally spins over.
When an engine spins over, but won't start then it's missing fuel, fire, or compression or any combination of any/all.
If I understand this guys's original post it sounds like his engine spins over, but won't start.
Exactly how have you checked for fuel so far?

ok, to clear it up. . . when i put the key in and turn the key to start the car, it will not start but the engine trys to start. thats putting it into the simplist terms. so yes the engine spins but will not start. and fuel was check right at the fuel rail. filled a 20oz coke bottle right up.

How quickly did it dfill the 20oz bottle? I mean you've got volume, but I wonder if you've got fuel pressure.
Like I said earlier though - if the engine won't start up and run it lacks fuel, fire, or compression.
If you've got good spark and good fuel pressure then it comes down to compression. This can be lost from something as serious as internal engine problems or due to timing belt timing being off.
Do you have any check engine codes being thrown?

it filled up up a 20oz bottle very quickly. currently it doesnt have any check engine codes. i need to check the timing a bit better, but if i remember correctly, all the timing belt marks match up
