Default strut bar installation

Just bought an OEM Si strut bar for my 98 coupe. It looks like I'm gonna have to drill. Anyone know what size bolts/washers I should use?

Wait wait wait. What drilling. If it's oem, it should be a direct bolt on.

In fact, if it's the OEM Si bar, it just directly bolts on to the shock tower. Just unbolt the 2 nuts on top of each shock, plop the bat on and rebolt (making sure you don't over or under torque the nuts.

Yes, you will have to drill. I did the same on my car. I will get back to you on the hardware. I think it is M12. I used Honda bolts and nuts. Use as big a washer as you can on the underside. The Si has a reinforcement plate under there.

The Si strut bar mounts onto the chassis. I dont think 96-98's had the predrilled holes.

thanks, i'll be waiting for your response with the hardware.

My bad guys, I assumed the shock towers of the EM1 Si and the 98 EX Coupe would be the same. I know it is for all EG / EJ1 JDM or USDM.

Sorry again.

That's what I did on my ol' 96 EK. It works just fine.

Bolts sizes are not important...just make sure it fits through the hole in the strut bar and get a matching bolt and a washer to hold it down.

I planned on putting that bar on my 96 sedan too. And the 96-98 don't have the pre-drilled holes.

Heh heh....don't feel bad. I did the EXACT same thing on the same topic just last week or so. I was under the impression that they were the same, but I learned that even for the 5th gen Civics some of them had to be drilled too. I ate some humble pie......

I don't like those bars cause then I have to drill, which means it is not OEM strength

But you're drilling in the same location as the OEM bar would mount, so it should be as strong as the cars with the OEM bar mounts pre-drilled.....some have even posted that there are pilot marks where to drill......
