Default stereo wiring question

aiite....im about to finally buy mah stereo faceplate...and i was thinkin since THEIF is at a high for civics to put my faceplate behind the cupholder (96 HB) and keep the stock stereo up top....and i was wondering is there a way to keep both working? cuz i was thinkin in the future to add something else (lcd maybe)

is there a reason to keep the stock one working??? you dont have to keep it working just because you're going to install a LCD monitor in the future,..just bring the harness down to the lower din and hook up the aftermarket deck,..then when you get the LCD then you can just hook the brain up to the new deck and blah blah blah,..good luck

For some reason back in the early 1990s this was something a lot of people wanted to do. I have personally done it on a couple of cars but to be honest it never really works out 100% right. You can easily damage the output transistors of the built in amps. It can be done however, it is just kind of "rigging" to even do it in the first place.

One thing you can do is to just run the power to the factory radio so it lights up and "looks" like it works and then hide your new radio in a custom install in the glovebox and use a remote to control it. Most new CD players come with remotes for under $200. Dont bother to hook up the speakers on the factory, just the new deck.
