Stereo Memory problem? The answer is here.
I bought my 94 Civic with an aftermarket radio. When I decided to replace it, I discovered a direct wire to the battery for the stereos memory while the car is turned off. I knew there was a wire in the stereo harness specifically for memory, so when I installed the new stereo I made sure to rip out the wire that was connected to the battery and connect the new stereo to the factory wiring. Unfortunately, the memory wire in the harness didn't work. No voltage. I measured it. I replaced the wire I ripped out with another one, and just left it. I figured the memory wire was cut or had rubbed through and no longer worked.
The other day, I picked up a dash clock from an Si and installed it into my hatch. It was incredibly dim and the time reset to 1:00 every time I turned my car off. Weird. Now I thought there may be more to these problems then just a broken harness wire.
Turns out theres a fuse under the hood that is labelled as "back-up" on the cover. It's the second one in from the left at the very top. It's a 7.5 A fuse that...guess what...powers the ECU, the stereo, and the dash clock while the car is turned off. Mine was blown. Honda was smart enough to put a spare 7.5 A in the dash fuse box.
I hope this helps eliminate some wiring in someones car.
