so this problem started yesterday, i was driving on the freeway holding the steering wheel and it just started to jerk by itself, i would compare it to tics that a person with autism has(not trying to be mean its just the only way i can describe it, srry) the car is a 98 honda civic dx- no power steering, it would do about 3 tics every 10 seconds and if i let go of the steering wheel while it does that it veres off to the left. anybody have ideas of what it could b?

Not to be an *** but are your lug nuts tight?

Take off both wheels, check tire pressure, and put them back on torquing them evenly. I believe it's 85 pounds? I use 80 pounds and they work fine. Also check the tire to see if theres any irregular patterns.

start with checking the tires.
then check your ball joints.

lug nuts are tight. i just called my mechanic and he said the steering rack could b trashed. it was a power steering rack and the previous owner took off the power steering. he said dirt and water could of got in it and trashed it.

any ideas on how to check if the rack is still good or bad?

I'd bet that you have a worn bushing somewhere. I dunno if EG suspension has this but maybe the radius rod bushing, EF's and DA's have this problem when u push the break.

^^ check the CV boot, those will start clicking around corners when bad.

check the belts in the tires or maybe the tie rod

both of the axles are new and they are not clicking. and the tires as well are new, only a few months old. i think its either the tie rods(outer) or the steering rack because the inner tie rods were replaced at honda in the summer.

its a ek hatch not an eg benjamin, just clearing things up.
