Steering knuckle repair
Does anyone have a link to the repair of the steering knuckle on a 98 civic LX. The boot is torn on mine and my chiltons manual does not explain very well, is there any special tools needed?

Re: Steering knuckle repair
I'm not sure what it's called, according to my Haynes manual, it says steering knuckle, anyway, the boots that are on the back side of the front rotors, on both sides are torn. They are on the shafts that go back to the transmission, I guess they are drive shafts? Can just the boot be replaced or does should the whole thing be replaced as this let dirt and debris into this joint? Appreciate any help in advance.

Yes, those are axel CV joint boots.
Here is a very good axel replacement/intallation tutorial by B18C5-EH2:

EDIT: It does not, howerever, show how to replace the boots.

Chances are, your axles will be contaminated and you'll want to replace them anyway. Besides, axles are relatively cheap. It was $40 more or so per side for me to put in rebuilt axles than jack with changing boots.

Re: Steering knuckle repair
Actually the thing he probably asking about is the dust boot cover for the steering knuckle from the upper arm assembly. As number 7 on the link.

I have the same question, as the steering assembly consists of a few of the dust boots and my car being a 1990 LX Accord AT4, these boots are worn out and about to break and I would like to know how to replace them. Just like my tie rod end boots are busted.
Thanks.
