Steering column popping?
I searched around for this, but didn't find anyone with the same problem it seems...
Two weeks ago, I replaced my beaten and loose manual rack with a rebuilt manual rack with a Quaife short-ratio rack and new pinion gear. The installation went fine, but after the steering rack was all bolted in, I forgot to set it in to the steering column first, and I was required to unbolt the column, pull it up a little, and sit it back on the rack pinion. No big deal right? So I thought, but since then, I have a nice POP from the upper part of the column, like right behind the steering wheel and I can't get rid of it nor find the source!
At first, I thought it was the swivel spline joint where the column meets the rack. So i readjusted and tighened. Retighened all the steering column bolts as well. Even took the whole thing off, resat it and tighened it all back down. The ******* noise remains when turning that requires any type of "muscle" if you know what I mean.
Anyone ever had this before? The noise wasn't there until I took the column down to reseat it on the rack. I didn't do anything major, just moved it a tad... I NEED to eliminate this noise. I hate it.
