starting problem

starting problem
I left my key on ign but not started for about a good 10 minutes without radio ac lights anything on...then i was about to leave and my car wont turn over....everytime i try starting it all it does is tickticktickticktick(a ticking noise from the starter).....so i had to push start it and it started....when i got the house and tried starting it it starts right up.....BATTERY or STARTER???

next time it does that, hit the starter with a hammer. and if it starts, replace the starter. and no i am not kidding. thats a great way to diag a starter.
