Starter Interchangeability - 92 vx Mitsuba SM302-48
My starter has kicked the can. I'm about 98% certain. I've gone through the FSM and taken a look at the starting circuit and everything operates properly. I can even hear the solenoid on the starter click, but the starter doesn't turn. This means everything up through the signal wire is good and the ground on the starter. The power cable on the starter is good as well. Since almost everything in the starter circuit is in series, the actual starter motor is the last thing in the line. It'll crank sometimes, but that's about it.
Anyways, I was wonder what the interchangeability is on these things? It looks like there may be a difference between Manual and Automatic ones by looking at Rock Auto. I would imagine this starter or one that would work is probably used on a TON of vehicles. Can anyone provide some sort of info on vehicle years/range/models that I'd be looking for to get a replacement starter at the yard? I can get one at the yard for $25 including core charge and entry. Given I haven't 100% conclusively proven it is starter, I'd rather do that than either buy a rebuild kit for about the same price or buy a reman for about $75.
Thanks for any input on this.

Any maual transmission civic 92-95 starter would work. Ive put a 92 civic si and 93 civic dx starter on my old 94 vx n it works.
not sure about the 96-00 civic starters though, they might be different

It was the starter solenoid. It failed the FSM continuity check on one of the checks. I pulled a solenoid off a 92-95 and replaced it. It works like a charm now. It was a good opportunity to check the starter, clean it, grease it, etc... For $3 a solenoid, I picked up an extra one at the yard too. The solenoid that went bad still clicked, but wasn't transferring power to the starter (intermittent). It was a bit misleading in the initial troubleshooting phase.
