squealing noise....very annoying
My younger brothers 99 SI for the last few days had had this squeal when you crank it up and then it goes away. The when you pull off it does it and when you surge the throttle it does it. We poped the hood and surged the throttle and it would do it about 80% of the time. It sounds like its comming from behind the IM and its just very brief but sometimes its loud, you can hear it pretty clearly from inside the car as well.
I seriously dont think its a belt, b/c it dosent do it constantly. We checked the rear motor mount and it seemed fine, so I dont realy know whatelse it could be. One of my friends said it happened to his buddies hatch and he said the noise wasn comming from behind the motor and didnt know what it was either. I hope this is enough of a description.

it still sounds like belts to me. when belts squeal, it can happend as a constant or sporadically. try tightening the belt or replacing it.

it is most definitely the alt belt, my friends did it all the time, its cause more power is used to start the car than idle, also sometimes did it when he turned his headlights on...just tighten the belt and youll be fine

it does it when the motor turns over and then you could sit there all day and it wouldnt do it, but the second you let out the clutch and start to move it will do it and when you just push and let off the gas it will do it. If it was a belt wouldnt it do it all the time. It dosent squeal the whole time the car is turned on just when startup and movement.
