screetching noise at startup
Some times when I start my car, a loud screetching noise happens until I start driving it, at which point it goes away withing in a second or two.
I'm under the impression that it's got something to do with my clutch, but I'm not sure. Nor do I know if it's harmfull. It's starting to occurr more frequently. Any insight?

Re: screetching noise at startup (SOHC_MShue)
I got out when it started earlier this evening and listened closely. It does sound like a belt, cause it doesn't sound contained (like it might be inside the transmission). But I'm not sure which one it is, cause once I get under the hood it's so loud I've got no idea where it's coming from. But starting out, I've not noticed any trouble. Like the car doesn't run funny or anything.
Any more thoughts?

Re: (egturbo)
pick up some belt dressing from your local parts store. if that doesnt help adjust your alternator belt by moving the alternator. i think we all agree this will be the simple alternator belt fix for you.

could also be low on power steering fluid because that pump can make some pretty nasty sounds if its running dry, if its not that then id also say belts

You could check the tension on the belts by pushing on them, if one seem tight mess with the tensioner or oil your pulleys.

Don't use belt dressing until you check the tension. If you just throw some belt dressing on and the belt happens to be loose, you're going to throw the belt. If it's just your belt tension don't even worry about the dressing. And if it is the tension, once you get it fixed you will notice a little more power.

dont use belt dressing period, its just a big messy rip off that seldom works, and when it does, you just have to keep reapplying it about once a week to keep the squeel's away, just tighten, or get a new belt. It's not like its expensive, about 15 bux!

Re: screetching noise at startup (Broke@$$tuner)
If the lights are dimming, they're not dimming enough for me to notice. Although, sometimes, very seldom, when I'm driving, like speeding up the car will let out a tenth of a second of the screetch, and my car kind of sinks. Like it doens't get any power for that split second.
Sometimes my lights dim. When I have my music upp real loud. But I think that's probably unrelated.
