Re: Spoon or Rota's (Targa250R)
Hell the Rota 15's are pretty light for how cheap they are any I've never had any problem with them and haven't heard too many negative things about them. If I could of bought the Spoons and dropped like 2g's on them I would of but with the additional 1400 I saved on the Rotas I was able to get my S-techs and AGX's and build a nice turbo kit.

I sell Rotas at my shop and when I got my Spoon SW388 wheels I did side by side comparisons of the wheels.
Aside from the blatantly obvious color differences, there are some other differences you can look for (my pics are at home - I'm at work right now). Rotas are more of a gloss black than the Spoon's very flat anodized finish.
1. "Made in Russia" being stamped in the wheel on the backside of the hub area is the key
2. The lip on the Spoons is thinner than Rotas
3. The edges on the real Spoons will be sharp - Rota's edges are smoother and not as cleanly cut
4. Unless someone took them off, the Spoons should have the Desmond sticker with a Roman looking horse and chariot thing on the insides. Why anyone would remove these, especially with Rotas being passed as Spoons these days is beyond me. I dount anyone with a brain would.
I actually have a pic loaded up on Imagestation of that sticker:
5. Again there should be another JAWA sticker too:
6. the hole for the valvestem will be small as **** on the Spoon wheel. They are so small that normal rubber "pull through" stems won't even come close to fitting. Here's a shot of the Spoon one:
Those are the only good pics I have loaded up. I've got a good one of the "Russia" stamp on the backside too at home on my PC.
Also all I'm doing is saying how to tell them apart. I'm not saying "Rotas suck" or "Spoons rule" I'm just telling you guys some differences aside from the color and weight.
Also here is a Spoon vs. Rota pic:
The Rotas are way shinier as you can see.
Also the real differences in the wheels are weight and strength.
Spoons are forged, thus 8.5lbs. and are stronger than cast wheels.
Rotas are cast and weigh 12lbs. and are not as strong.
I have a set of Rotas on one of my hatches, and a set of Spoons on another. Both are great wheels. The Rotas are awesome for the money, but if I was getting Rotas I would NOT get black Slips because they look nothing like the real thing IMO.
There are so many Rota styles that the black Slip is 100% unappealing to me. I'd get bronze or Sports Bronze C8, Group N, Circuit 10, Sub Zero, etc.
Oh yeah the last thing is the PRICE.
Rotas sell at my shop for $440.00 for a set of 4 15x6.5. Spoon 15x6.5 wheels sell for $385.00 PER WHEEL so they are almost 4 times as expensive.
Honwstly I'd recommend Rotas over Spoons after owning both, because they are just way cheaper and are still an excellent wheel. I auto-X'd my old Rotas and drove on shitty ATL with no breakage or bending. Spoon wheels are obviously a lot stronger, but unless you have a track car you will never need that extra strength.
Why do I have Spoon wheels?
Because I did not pay anything near the list price for them. I got a going out of business sale deal on them. Basically I got the whole set for roughly $400.00 cheaper than normal. After selling the Rotas I had I almost did not have any extra money in the Spoons. Otherwise I'd have never bought them.

They do. Look under the name Konig and look for the Rewind wheels. They are a Panasport knock-off with crazy offsets, but are only 13'' and 14'' if I recall right.

Not to mention, you'd probably rather bend a $110 wheel than a $385 wheel.

You got springs and shocks on all four corners and built a turbo kit with $1400?
Wow. WTF am I doing with my B18C5 motor and genuine Spoon wheels and the 5-lug conversion?
On my next car I'm going to leave it 4-lug, get rotas, and boost the Dseries motor for $1400.

No ****.
One could bend/break 3 Rotas for the price of one Spoon.
I love having Spoon wheels and being able to say that I'd honestly recommend Rotas.

Hey, look at the bright side, your turbo SOHC will probably be faster than your current project...
