Spare Tire Sub Box
Hey guys, I'm thinking of throwing a piece of carpeted and sealed plywood or fiberboard over my spare tire area [tire is removed] and throwing my 10's in it so they will sit flush with the board. This obviously isn't going to be sealed like a legitmate box, so my question is this: Anyone out there do something similar? and if so, how does it sound compared to a box? I know there will be a difference, but if I'm curious as to how much. It's not so much that I don't want to break down and buy a box, that's not a problem at all. Its just that I don't want every theif in Houston eyeballing my system. So what do you ya'll think?

There has to be more then just a piece of wood, the back of the sub should be air tight.. if not you just wasted your time.

Re: Spare Tire Sub Box (john666)
The reason I ask is I've seen lots of people with similar setups, and they bang pretty hard. So what's their secret? I know a little something about stereos, but I've never had subs in any vehicle I've owned, so I'm a little clueless on this.
If I do need to seal the speakers, someone share some ideas on how to do this while remaining as stealth as possible. I found a nice, flashy box on ebay but I'm afraid it will draw too much attention. And since I'm working with a hatch, it's not like I have a lot of options to hide the stuff. Any input appreciated.

They may have free air subs. You CAN seal the back in as well. Its not that hard.
BTW-we have an audio forum for a reason
