need some subwoofer help
i want to put two 10s in my car but i dont want a box...i was thinking about ditchin' the spare tire and turning my trunk into a box.....i dont want the added weight of the box. has anyone done this before...and dont worry i have the technecal know how jsut never done this before..i guess im jsut worried about the sound quality.
it makes a grrrreat box. i once has a bandpass box with 2 polk 12s, i threw in a lanzar 15" where the tire went. the lanzar made the sound ridiculous. so i sold the 12s. it was still louder.
If you are worried about the sound quality don't. A fibreglass box in the spare tire well has been done may times. The box not only sounds good it is also lighter the MDF boxes and some what concealed if constructed right.
Remember to take a spare tire along for any long road trips or you could be caught in a bad situation.

A fiber glass or other material box built in the spare tire place works grate. Realize that you are not just using the box as an enclosure but the whole car as a means for resonance. I would recommend using subs designed to work with small sealed enclosures. Subs like JL, Kicker (solobarics), etc.
u would need some big 10's like beyond audio inhuman or a R.E XXX..... if u want to make your whole trunk into a box u would have to take everything out and see your total air space . seel the trunk from the cab and use some real big power..... if your box it to big it will do nothing......... hope this help, if u need any more help just ask
In a civic you barely have any room.
If you want two 10s without a box (i.e. infinite baffle) - get a different car i.e. one with a trunk.
The spare tire for the civic is really small and as such you will have very little enclosure volume - enough for a single 8" or 10".

You can fit two free-air 10's in the trunk deck. It's the most space/weight efficient way of adding subs. SQ is okay with this setup but it's better than a bandpass box.
