False, supposedly Circuit City sells a kit that will allow you to remove the OEM stereo without having to sacrifice the keyless entry system.
True, the wires behind the stock stereo are for keyless entry, with the stereo installed to close the circuit there will be no keyless entry. I believe the keyless entry brain is all green and rests in-between the stereo. Should be viewable with the stereo pulled out.

what shaunts99 said is true for 96-98?...
for 99+ you can, and i did, retain keyless with an aftermarket headunit... honda moved it for 99
EDIT: put in a space...

I stand corrected because I was referring to 96-98, I forgot to take into exception of the 99-00 Civic.

Any reputable stereo shop will be able to make it work with whatever stereo you choose.

...so in conclusion, 96-98 you have to keep your stock unit in, and 99+ you don't have to, correct?

Re: Someone said i gotta leave the stock stereo in???? (SHAUNTS99)
96-98 keylesss is controlled by the headunit.. buy a 801720t and you can keep the factory radio in the car and keep keyless entry.. 99-00+ doesnt matter if you remove the factory radio keyless entry will still work..

Take out the comma, the word "correct", and the question mark and there lies the answer.
There you go.
