Someone adjusted valves on my car and its missing?
The motor is a d16y7 on a ek hatch.
Well to start out my car sounds like a wrx after this valve adjustment. I was watching the guy do the valve adjustment on the car and we was tightining them by feel. And wasnt bringing each tdc on each adjustment he just pulled it into the garage and i believe tdc was on clyinder one and he adjust them as it says on specifications. So he started it up and it sounds like ***.
So i tell the guy screw this and drive it home. While im drive it home the check engine light starts flashing at my and i know thats not a good thing at all. My question is could these valves be so off now cause he didnt bring them to top dead center that its missing? I went out and bought a valve adjuster tool now on every clyinder i bring it to tdc and use the valve adjust to check clearance. Ive heard of people using coat hangers to tell their up at tdc. Do i tighten the valves tight enough to slide the tool in between?
I have checked the diy and i just really dont understand.

Do a compression test on all cylinders. If it has a significant drop in compression in those cylinders I would say it is burnt valves. The same thing happened on my b16. I had to rebuilt the entire head.
