So i'm looking at buying my first civic...
Well, I sold my mustang and moved to Hawaii. I'm looking at buying my first civic, i'm in the miilitary, so of course money is tight. I've always liked 92 hatches, for whatever reason. Today I found a red 92 civic hatch VX, and I can get it for around 2500, it has no rust or dents and only has 55k on the engine, he says is a Vtech.
Ok, as i've said, this will be my first import, i've always had camaros and mustangs.
So, what is the VX and CX/DX differences? Is that too high? And this car can't be a vtech can it? Not if it's original? Please help me out. Thanks in advance!

Re: (I Shot 50 Cent)
EGs own man...I miss VTEC though. Im running an Integra LS Motor in my 96 Civic CX. The VX Hatchback however has plenty of options. Im sure you will get power steering, ac, as well as the D16y8 motor found from the Civic EX Coupes. You will learn love for VTEC after first hit

Your thinking D16z6 for the Si's. That is the ones from that paticualr model year. They had 125hp. A lot for a civic back then. Then there is the single overhead cam ZC engine which is the japanese equivelant. But I see no point in owning any "powerful" d series engine, the trannys are ****! Really really shitty. So if your getting the stripped down, gas sipper civic then just focus on makeing it look nice. Otherwise swap in a b series. Don't waste your time with a D. Enjoy your car...i miss my SI.

WTF? Biased? Have you ever even spent time on an SOHC? It's not worth your time? For the same amount of money you can make an N/A D as fast if not faster than swapping a B16. And for the same amount of money as dropping in a B18C5 you can make a D series MUCH faster. So for people who don't have a huge budget (which he did say) Ds are cheap and have serious potential. Not worth your time my ***.
92-95 hatch is an awesome choice. Won't be VTEC unless they swapped the engine to a D16Y8 and added a VTEC solenoid. Good luck man.

Yeah, because I'd rather drive a 13 year old Civic than a new Corvette any day of the week.

Re: (honda_coupe)
Yeah, my bad, you're right. Like I said just getting into the imports.
Looking for a 92-95 civic hatch. The eg right?
I think it was a good move leaving the domestics a well, since i've already gone through 3 engines and 6 tranny's in my fox, in under a year and a half! This should be the cheaper, more reliable way to go.

I dont believe they do J, but you can plug and play an SI or EX cluster and you'll be all set.
For 2 grand, I dont think its a bad deal, especially if you'll have a few dollars left over for minor things afterwards.
Just make sure there is minimal to no rust, especially on the rear quarter panels. Rust is notorious in older hondas, but since its a Hawaii car you may be in good shape. Other than that...its up to you, but depending on availabilty of other cars, you may have found yourself a whip.
Good Luck man.

Re: (Rahxephon)
If you can get it for 2, I'd think about it. Before I bought my VX the other day, I was shopping around for EG's very often. Up in Seattle, they go for around 2000 for a clean one. So if you can get it for 2, I'd definately think about it. Plus it has AC which mines doesn't have haha... Hopefully I can get this installed before the summer though. Also about the tach, yeah they don't have a tach but you can just swap it out for a cluster with a tach.

Yes it will be VTEC, if it's an si with a D16Z6. But good luck, and Yes, your new found niche in Honda will be MUCH less expensive and WAY MORE reliable than a Found On Road Dead.

Re: (ek gripper)
Ok, no rust, just that "big *** dent" in the rear bumper. I think i'm going to go pick it up tomorrow afer work if he still has it, due to the limited supply of eg's on the island. \
Thanks for all your help so far, and now I know where I can come back to for more help once I get the car! Thanks again!
