SI VTEC RPM engagement ques. 1.6 L
Sorry if I missed this in FAQ but have 2 questions about my 1995 SI "Sol" with the 1.6L engine.
First off I know its a SOHC so I assume its 2 valves per cylinder and not 3 or 4 right?
Second question is what RPM does the VTEC kick in on said engine?
I own a 01 Prelude as well and it definitely kicks in above 5200RPMs and I can feel/hear it but this is also DOHC as well. On the Del Sol, meh!
Thanks for any info and again apologize if I missed this in FAQ!

the b-series kicks in at 5200 rpms or atleas on my em1.My sohc Z6 hatch kicked in at like 4200ish rpms. And i am pretty sure you know why it is so low on the single cams than the dual cams.

Your em1 should be 5700 rpm I believe. And Z6's do engage earlier, as you said. I believe it's around 4800 rpm, not 4200. That's pretty early. And the z6 engagement is different than the y8 single cam.
I don't know what you mean by it's so low on single cams and not dohc motors...There are single cams with high engagement points as well as lower, and same with DOHC. Don't quote me on the exact numbers but here's an idea.
DOHC:
b16 ~5700
b18c5 ~5700
b18c1 ~4800
SOHC:
d16z6 ~4800
d16y8 ~5700
Obviously I didnt list every motor but you get the idea.
