Hey, I was wondering if you guys could help me out... I just bought a si cluster from a buddy and the fuel gauge isn't working. It is stuck over full and has no movement. I flipped the cluster over, and there was a screw missing. I replaced it and it seemed like it was stripped, so I put a little rtv on it and it still didn't work. Anyone got any ideas??

Don't think you should be putting RTV on electrical components even the "sensor safe" stuff. unless pic of said screw but afaik all the screws are on the back

first post got it right... get your money back or replace the fuel gauge section... if its a screw the head of the screw needs to make contact to the copper on that flimsy plastic board the cluster uses to power it....

i know what happened. i did this to my accord i decide to take the dash apart and replace a bulb in the cluster. well opened her up took EVERYTHING apart, put her together and fuel gauge pinned past fuel, took it apart and took only the fuel gauge out and noticed that one of the screw that holds the gauge goes into this spot where if you turn hard enough you'll break the contact its like a lil string of wire it spins and spins if you put the screw on and turn it. the only thing you can hope for is that you can maybe somehow remove the needle without breaking the metal pin inside it and just throw in a regular motor from a non si eg and pop it in into the si cluster and put the si needle back on goodluck

Good idea and all, but pretty positive op is talking about a 99-00 em1 si cluster. Chances of finding parts related to just the fuel/temp gauge portion would be pretty slim.

Thanks for all the feedback. I was reading on another post that if you get a new fuel/ temp from Honda, that it might do the trick.... It seems like its a 50/50 chance.

^ Reaperman above likely has it right. There's a few posts in the FAQ about this, btw. Also, RTV on electrical components? You do know how electricity works, no? And that the screw is actually a conductor?

Either fuel gauge doesn't work or fuel gauge sending unit doesn't work.

Agreed with Marc, get your money back (unless your fuel gauge didn't work in the first place) then it's fixable.

Ya, I know the screw is a conductor.... That was why I noticed that it wasn't working. I messed up by saying rtv, I meant lock tight. And I only used a little for the threads on the bottom to hold it in place. I thought as long as the head of the screw is hitting the green circuit board on the back, then it would work, because its a ground.

the reason it acts like its stripped is because you broke the contact wire that goes to that post on the gauge.

Sry I've never taken the cluster fully apart, but is the contact wire in the fuel/temp gauge? So then all I would have to do is replace that from Honda? Or is it actually in another part?

Go look at the FAQs. There's DIYs on how to fix your exact problem, and will cost you only time with the right tools.

I tried that and it said sorry no matches.... I just need 2 know if I buy a new fuel/temp gauge from Honda, if that will solve my problem

Probably. But it will cost more than fixing it yourself. Here's the thread ... I just looked at the FAQs and the title of the link is obscure/unclear ... will change it to clarify.

Grab a used/damaged cluster for which you are sure that fuel gauge might be in working condition out of the rest. Remove the fuel gauge and replace it with yours. Be careful not to tight the back screws too much this time as this way you can again damage the thin copper wire(s) which are attached with the screw posts as earlier told by ReaperMan.

If you are comfortable taking the cluster apart then remove the fuel gauge, then take off the silver cap by pulling gently, look for the fine copper wire (it's as thick a a human hair) then see if all three are attached. If one is broken like on mine you can repair it and put it back together. I am sorry I forgot to take an after shot and I am not taking it apart again. I would get a J/Y gauge to test on so you don't mess up your SI gauge.

You actually don't need another SI donor cluster for this. You can get the required spindle from any 92 till 00 civic , they all are the same at back only the front dials are different. I have 3 to 4 clusters lying around I wish I could help you......
