Short Blocks: D16a6 VS D16y8! Which to use for Turbo build.
Hey, my question for ya guys is which block should I use and why? I know the a6 has Steel mains and is a little stronger, but I think the y8 has a better oil pump stock. Let me know guys and I got both blocks already just trying to choose which to go with. ALSO... Side question I might do a Vtec head on the blocks as well, does anyone have a Compression figure for an a6 with z6 head and Vitaras? or the y8 with z6 head and Vitaras? Also Stock head gasket.
Thx all.
EDIT: just realized the compression would be the same in both blocks so just need the one figure.

Hmm ok, I *think* the vitaras only drop the CR on the stock y8 and y7 about .5 so I Assume about 9.9CR for a turbo setup... Still alittle low but I will make much better power on lower boost VS non-vtec and lower CR and higher boost.

My friend has an a6 block, z6 head, with vitaras and he told me he is somewhere in the low 9's for the CR.

Yea, his is turbo. No numbers as of yet becaue he is still tuning it himself..but at 12 lbs he is beating mid-low 13 second cars and this is in an ef. He also has rods, a block guard, head work and a huge turbo though.

Nice. Im going Eagle/Scat rods, Vitaras, Block posting/guard, and maybe a port and polish on the Z6 head. Next year when budget permits Custom turbo kit.

My friend waited a while for boost too. He built everything, then drove the car as a winter car because 1) he has an s2k and 2) to break it in so he doesn't have to wait for boost.
