Shocks + Srpings or Shocks + Coilovers
So i have been shoping around for my 1997 Del Sol Si ... I have got an idea as to what I am doing but I wanna be 100% sure I am getting the right things to suite my needs. I am going to get the Skunk2 Sport Shocks as a replacement to my stock 11 yr old shocks. Now I want to lower the car as well but it is driven in the winter (i Am from Canada) so i need to raise it as well part of the year. I was going to go Full Coilover S Skunk2 but it seems as though it requires more maintenace, camber kits, etc etc (correct me if I am wrong) which I am not interested in that kind of maintenance. So I thought maybe a shock + coilover would do the trick as apposed to Shock + Springs ...
I need clarification if anybody can help I'd really appreciate it ...

the koni/ground control coilover kits in the marketplace seem like a smokin deal. going to pick up a full set of those sometime soon. depending on how much you lower it, it shouldnt really need a camber kit. if ur going to slam the shart out of it, then you will. just make sure to get an alignment after they are installed.

Re: (elektronsi)
I have Progress Competition coilovers on my CRX, and it rides better than the stock suspension on my STI. I got them for under $700 shipped off there website.

Are there any brands to steer clear of ? Tokico, Skunk2, KYB, Koni, etc etc ? I wanna make sure I am not wasting my money on this ... As well the main thing I wanted to know was really Coilovers+shocks vs Springs+shocks ... What are the advantages of each ?

I put tokico shocks and springs on my del sol, lowered it 2" and I drive in Wisconsin year round, and have yet to be stuck even with the cripling snow storms we have had this past winter. Its all in how you drive your car in the snow, and haveing good tires make a world of difference. I passed people last winter stuck in the snow with 4x4 jeeps, and I have never been stuck......

yeah, i know what you mean about good tires. my car has been nicked "unstoppasol". it really pisses the 4x4 truck rednecks when a little roadster can get thru the snow they are stuck in. passed a few in the mud too, haha, that was awesome. they needed tractors to get them out, sold skates right by.

Must be the low center of gravity ... Too bad not having a frame around the windows caues the doors to freeze shut ... not to mention the locks being frozen day in and day out during the winter !!!

My slender figure allowed me to crawl out the rear window in a "Superman" fashion ... Ahhhh nothing like sports cars in the Canadian winters!! It does heat up unbelievably quick though .... One benefit of the cozy cabin!!

not slamming it, but thats just my retarded opinion. I like cars that feel like they still have springs in em.

Re: (nix94delsol)
You can have sex in them ... Use the following steps
Step #1 ... Remove the top and place in truck rack
Step #2 ... Have the lovely lady of your choice sprawl across the passenger seat with her hands on the drivers seat
Step#3 ... Put on a Jonny Hat
Step#4 ... Ask your mom or dad aout the birds and the bee's or follow past experience
Works like a charm for me !!!
