shiftlight set at 7800 but comes on at 7000.
I have a gsr motor and i have a shift light at 7800 and a rev limiter at 8000rpms. The shift light comes on at about 7000rpms. does this mean my tach is wrong? what parts of the head would keep the car from revving to it's potential? valves? I wanna know because im going to be replacing my valve seals this weekend.

you have like a big tach?
so are you actually redlining at 7k? or is your shift light just kicking on at 7k? Can you rev past 7k? Or are you just asking what you need to replace to get a higher reving gsr?
your description hurts my brain.

no, i have an si cluster. not a big tach
from what my cluster tells me, i'm redlining at around 7k. The shift light comes on at 7k rpms, but i have it set at 7800. This could be two problems.
A. my tach is wrong (but it seems fairly accurate)
B. My head has something wrong with it's valvetrain that won't let me get up to 7800.

i'd say your best bet is to run the gearing thru one of those online things that tell you what your RPMs would be at: at said speed with what ever size tires your running on. that sounds like your tach is jacked up. does your motor seem weaker then normal?
