Shift Light Question (searched)
I bought a shell with an autometer shift light and tach already installed. I swapped my motor in and everything went hunky dory. Fast forward a year and a half and last week I was driving my car and was happily getting on the freeway when I slammed into my rev limiter. In my previous car, I was always really careful not to do this and kept an eye on my tach. Well this shift light has made me lazy, and I've come to rely on it.
I've got a JDM GSR motor in a 92 EH2. The motor and ECU are all stock. I had the shift light set to go off at 7800 rpm, well below the motors capable 8200 rev limiter. I thought somehow I had bumped the back of the light where the dial is so I set the dial to go off 7000 rpm. I took off and went right on passed 7000 and let off the gas at 8000. I thought that the light had burned out or something, but it still comes on when I turn the key on. At the same time as the fuel pump primes.
Since I didn't install the thing, I don't know how it's hooked up or how it should be hooked up. Is the light dead? Or is there some cable between the light and tach that could have come loose?
Thanks for your help HT.
