Default scuffed up ej8-2 cluster

I was trying to get the stupid red paint off my needles in my ex cluster, and it seems the acetone scuffed the surface of the gauges up.

Now it looks shiny like a layer of clear coat has been rubbed off and smeared around. The other gauges look flat black.

If anybody has ever used googone on a black surface, once it dries it almost dries out the entire surface as well, leaving a white looking residue.

Well the gauges on the cluster have this as well, ive tried simple green, dawn and nothing works.

Could I use mothers "back to black" on my cluster to possibly recondition the plastic again?

I dont know anyothger way other than buying a new cluster

no camera sorry.

But it looks the same thing as if you took very fine sand paper to some black trim.

You cant buff it out, but could you armorall it to get the luster back?

pretty much looks like the black is totally faded

Back to Black is pretty much baby oil. ArmorAll is also an oil. Both will probably leave streaks, and possibly could end up causing other problems in the future (oily "condensation", smears, drips).

I'm not sure how the warmth of the working gauge cluster might end up affecting it either, but I'm betting it will eventually dry out.

Time for a new gauge cluster.

Had I had this cluster in the beginning, I would have just bought another cluster and sold the one with red needles to someone who wanted it.
