rpm's won't drop with clutch engaged?
i've searched on this forum and can't find the answer or helpful hint that i'm looking for. I just bought a 99 civic 4 door, ex, 5spd. and when i push the clutch in to coast to a light, the rpms won't drop for some reason. only when i come to a COMPLETE STOP will the rpm's drop down and only from 2500 to 1500.
I can get the rpm's to drop if i put my foot under the pedal and pull backwards on the gas, which will cause it to drop down to the idle spot at 600-800.
this problem only happens about 50% of the time. some days i can get in it and the car acts fine, other times this happens. i checked the throttle cable and gas pedal and have found no slack or pinching points.
any help would be greatly appreciated

Ihave been having the same problem, and I think my throttle plat e is sticking... take off the throttle body, and use some carb clean, and a toothbrush to clean where the plate contacts the throttle bore, there might be carbon build up

And also properly adjust the throttle cable tension. There should be as much as 1/2" of slack.

k, just took the throttle body off and cleaned the hell out of it, put it back on and at least for now it's not acting up. but this car does have moods, so i'll keep you all posted and let you know if it acts up again here in the next couple of days. thanks again everyone for all the help.
