Rpm tach issue/omni power tach
Ok here's my issue. 1992 civic si, I know the rpm gauges in the clusters tend to be off 1000-2000rpm especially at higher RPM's. Tried a total of 4 clusters now, only accurate one is my friends cluster. Decided to buy omni power tach insert for one of my clusters. That particular tach in the cluster read good until around 3,000 RPM's then from there it was inaccurate. Now I put the omni power tach in and nothing, sits at 0rpm, makes a light buzzing noise and sometimes the needle will flutter. I purchased the tach from king Motorsports. I bought one yesterday and thought it was a dud, they replaced it with another and still the same thing. I would think 2 in a row wouldn't be bad, but I'm confused due to the cluster my friend has working perfectly fine for me. Seem to have a good connection plug wise, power wise, ground wise and for piece of mind ran a wire directly from the blue wire on distributor all the way to the cluster so that connection is also good. Any similar issues or any ideas?

Yeah I know, tried both omni tachs in numerous clusters. Same result. Even ran the tach signal wire directly to the tach, and also power and ground directly to the tach. Did same result of not working.

Either you got two bad tachs in a row (possible) or there's something wrong with the igniter, but if it works with a different tach that would sort of eliminate the igniter.

Re: Rpm tach issue/omni power tach
I will double check the length of the screws tonight after work. And yes about the other tachs, I've tried a total of 4 tachs so far, I know that due to their age and use that they tend to be off on higher RPM's. One of them I have is off by about 1,000-2,000rpm after revving past 4,000 rpm. Second one was off by 1000, 3rd one a friend had seemed to be spot on, and another was off by 2000. So that is what puzzled me. Some actually work and are accurate, and the omni tach just didn't work period.

Re: Rpm tach issue/omni power tach
I am experiencing the same issue with the new tach. Just kind of flops around until I drive around for 20 mins or so, and than is innacurate.
I will try to tighten up the screws as I didn't hulk them.

Sorry I haven't checked lately. I actually gave the tach and my cluster to my friend. He put it in his car. Worked great, was accurate like it should. Then all of a sudden just stopped working and is stuck at 0 no fluttering at all.
