Royal Purple Synchromax (and temporary use of RP 10W-30)
I've been reading the forum and I find many mentions of Honda MTF, Penzoil Synchromesh, and even the advocation of using standard 10W-30 oil. I recently decided to change my trans oil (90,000 mile mark). I have driven several cars (non-honda) before and after switch to Royal Purple, and much to my surprise the shifting experience was insanely improved. In fact, currently, because at the time I could not locate Synchromax (until just yesterday) locally, I used Royal Purple 10W-30, and by the end of the day yesterday, the shifts were improved. In fact, even the earlier mentioned (by me) "issue" of having to go into 1st before going into reverse in some situations (where there was a bind on the drive train, etc.) has virtually gone away (haven't experienced it yet since the change).
I finally found some Synchromax (Pep Boys and a local performance shop are the only ones who actually had stock available), and I am feeling good about the swap. It is designed for manual trans that (like Honda) call for conventional multi-weight engine oil. Given the experience using the RP 10W-30, I anticipate things to only get better.
So here is the question: Has anyone had any experience with RP Synchromax? and are there any reservations or reasons not to use it?
I just thought I would relate my favorable experience to anyone interested as I have yet to be disappointed by any of the RP products, even at the price. And unless anyone knows of a particular problem, I would highly recommend it (since there has been some debate as to what to use).
Thanks again.
