Default Rev limiter

At what point did they start putting rev limiters on Civics? I'm just curious because my 92 DX model doesn't have a tach and I'm always worried about overrevving it (I will be getting either a tach or a cluster swap soon).

I'm guessing this was a stupid question, but I haven't been able to find any answers to it by Googling.

No idea when, but awhile ago. You wont over rev your DX, and hitting the limiter isnt absolutly detrimental yo your motor, unless of course your hitting it in just about every gear, every day, all the time.

But being that its a DX, your gears should be layed out like this:

1st: 0~38 mph <-- 7200 limiter
2nd: 38~63 mph <-- 7200 limiter
3rd: 63~94 mph <-- 7200 Limiter
4th: 94~110?mph <-- 7200Limiter
5th: Dont know, ive never pushed it that hard, lol.

Thats the basic layout as far as i know of the DX and LX ( Not CX or HX, or the EX/SI) transmission gearing. Use that as a guide if you wish into knowing what speeds are good for what gears.

A good friend of mine used to have the CX trans in his hatch. He was doing 75mph in 2nd gear at about 6000rpm, they have verrryy long gears for economy reasons, same as LS tranny's.

The EX tran's are the best tho, either Y8 or Z6. They are a little bit shorter than the DX and LX gears, i cant tell you an exact number, but i do know that first gear is about the same, and second doenst even get to 60.

Thanks. That helps quite a bit. I thought I had felt the car cut off the fuel in 1st gear before but I wasn't sure and didn't want to be sitting there revving it to 9000 and blow it.

Thanks again.

Quite impossible with a rev limiter. The ECU cuts the fuel supply, physically disabling the motor from, even reaching there. The only way you could possibly over-rev your motor is by mishifting to like 2nd gear at like.. 80+ MPH, but even then, if your clutch is strong enough, the tires will lock up until you decelerate to 60 or less. Ive done that once, not at 80 tho, lol
