To Resurface Or Not To Resurface Flywheel
Well in my quest to swap out the clutch, I've hit BIG bump. I can't get the flywheel off.....with anything. There aren't any burns in the flywheel so I'm wondering if I should take a chance and not resurface. I've soaked the bolts in PB which might not have been the smartest thing if I'm going to leave the flywheel on.
What would be the best way to insure all of that PB is gone if I don't resurface?

Well i cannot for the life of me get but one bolt out of the flywheel. Thus, I'm not resurfacing. Can I just sand it down if a very find grit and the spray clean with brake cleaner?

When I replaced my clutch, I kept the same flywheel and didn't resurface it. I haven't had a problem with it for 6000 miles..
Most anyone would tell you to surface the flywheel if you have it out. "It's always a good idea" and yes, it is. But it's not entirely a necessity.

Well I just hit it with 100 grit sand paper and will go another round just to make sure there are no unseen ridges. Also doing it in a swirling pattern as do the milling machines

have you tried using like a breaker bar and a long cheater pipe to get the last bolt off? well just thing of the flywheel like ur brake rotors, its wise to resurface it if your replacing the clutch. it will work better and last longer.

Trust me I've used the following methods:
Breaker bar 3.5'
Impact 80psi
Heat + Impact
Lube + Impact
Nothing and I don't want to fucke up the bolt head for the next guy who works on it. Like I said, I've been sanding in circular motions getting is as preped as possible, when others have just thrown on a new clutch and have had no problems.
I'm not one for half assing things whenever possible.

personally, if you are just one bolt away, dont cut corners, and just take the flywheel off and have it resurfaced.
it is cheap insurance once you have gone this far and have everything else already off. also, torque all the bolts to the proper specs too when reinstalling the flywheel and bolts you removed. if they come loose, it can cause some major damage, and if not, you will still have to tear everything down again to get to it.
just do it the right time the first time.

That doesnt sound right....U should be able to get all the bolts off...An impact will most likely not work.I had a to use a big cheater pipe. But it still wasnt that hard. Do to have something to keep the motor from spinning over while ur trying to turn them? I supposed u will be alrite not resurfacing as long as u get all the glazed material off. And find a small straight edge to make sure the surface is level.

I wouldn't run a chance with maybe snapping the bolt. Then thats a big project ahead of you. Do as you said sand it down and use some brake cleaner to make sure you have a good contact surface. Make sure its clear of dirt and debris.
