Default Resetting the ECU

Is it true that if you reset the ecu after you install a mod that the car will run better? I read in websites that its a myth and I also read that its true. Anyone notice any difference? I want to reset the ECU this weekend but if it doesnt do anything I dont want to bother. If I unplug the battery will that also reset the ECU? Or do i have to pull out the fuse to reset it? Which fuse is it? I'm a noobie so be nice and tell me some useful info. Thanks people!!

Just reset it, it wont hurt any thing , but dont really think it will do any thing either. just disconnect the battery for a couple minutes then plugg it back in tighten it back down let the car idle for couple minutes or till warm. Then its business as usaul .
Some people say it makes the cars ECU make tiny adjustments that will let you take advantage of each mod..................I think a dyno is the best answer to getting the most out of each mod

The idea behind resetting the ECU is that it will accept the new mod quicker. Instead of having to adapt to the mod, it will start over again. As you drive the ECU learns. In a recent magazine, they drive a WRX along way giving it hell. Then they dynoed it, reset the computer and dynoed again. It had like 10 more horsepower before the reset, because of the way they drove the car before.

Sorry if this is a newbie question, but when you guys say reset the ecu, do you mean just pulling the 7.5 fuse in the fuse box or is there more to it?

you can either pull the fuse, and let it sit for 30seconds.....or disconnect your battery for 2mins

jsut pull your ecu fuse. better that way. sometimes just unplugging your battery doesn't do the job. just rip out the fuse. Under your hood, by your battery, there is a fuse box. Open it, and find the ECU fuse. And thats that. plug it back in after a couple minutes, and give her hell.

I have just pulled the ecu fuse for hours and my cel light was still on. Pulled the negative of the battery for about 15 min and it did the trick. Also when the battery is unplugged, you should push the brake pedal to clear all the voltage out of the system.
