replacing front windshield
I'm about to replace my front windshield maybe this weekend. Any of you guys got yours replaced, and did anything go wrong; such as leaks of some sort? Anything i need to look out for before i let them replace it? And what will they do about the rear view mirror? Will they put it back on for me?

Re: replacing front windshield (vitekboi)
I would take it to get it replaced. They will take care of the rear view mirror. Any good place that does windshields should take care of everything, just go over it when they are done to look for any gaps.

i had mine replaced cause i broke it swatting a mosquito. the shop did everything, and did a good job. mirror was back on and everything. my only complaint was they threw out the velcro thingys that are for my ezpass. im gonna have to have mine replaced again (errant rock on new years day- and no i wasnt tailgaiting ), and im not worried at all. bring it to a good shop and let them do the rest

Re: replacing front windshield (blackeg)
When you say you brought it to a good shop, how much did you end up paying? I have a 93 civic hatch and the places i found ranged from 125-250 for replacing a windshield. Just wondering if price reflects quality.

I personally would like to get a oem window. And if a shop is charging less than 250 its probably not oem.
250 for the glass and a additional 20 for shims at hondaautomotiveparts.com
BTW how hard could this be really. Ive shimmed and installed windscreens on aircraft does anyone here think it could be diy?

its really not hard to do if your somewhat mechanically inclined..
ppg is good glass, or you can get factory..
but if you want it to look good get all the oem moldings if you can.
universal looks fugly to me.
just be sure you let it dry like a day before you drive it. (or else it might move and not seal all the way around)
and its hard to remove the old one..
removing the old one is 100x harder than installing it, unless you dont have any reason to save the old 1, then break it.
you need a long super sharp knife
and you start at the top and work your way around. just gotta keep slicing over and over till you get it all the way through
then try and cut away the old glue so its a smooth surface 4 the new glass

My friend got his replaced a while ago, the company sent someone out to replace it. While sitting there talking to the guy he metioned that for civics whenever you get a new windshield you need to ask for an "OE" windshield, something about the other ones don't fit right or crack too easy or something.
