Replacing front brakes in 98 LX - need advice on choosing pads and rotors
Hey all,
So I recently purchased a 98 LX sedan with an automatic and i'm trying to do all the "clean up" stuff as the previous owner didn't really take that great care of the car. The brakes are going bad and that's what I want to change next.
I was going to go with Autozone Duralast pads and rotors but I stumbled by some Brembo blanks on eBay which are going to even cheaper than Duralast gold rotors in-store.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Pieces-Bre...7#ht_500wt_969
My question is what are good pads to go with these rotors and where can I get them the cheapest? I don't need anything high performance, I just want OEM performance but if something much better only costs a few bucks more then I'm all for it.
Thanks,
Brandon

Brembo makes good stuff. I really try to stay away from the autozone around here because I have bought some bad parts there before. If you are going for OEM performance I would just go to your local autoparts store and get the 2nd most expensive house brand pads.

Re: Replacing front brakes in 98 LX
I run thermo-quiet ceramic pads. I got them off of I think Rockauto.com I paid $20 for them after a $10 rebate they were running. Even if it was 30...its still a great deal in my opinion.
I put alot of miles on the car, and do a LOT of city or stop & go driving (see location).
I just checked them after about 1.5 years of service....they read almost new. It was about 1 mm down from new. Thats about 30k miles of service as well.
Id go with the brembo blanks and a set of ceramic pads....they are DEAD silent, and hold up very well.

Thank you for the replies. It sounds like I'm gonna want go to with the Brembo blanks and the Thermo-Quiet ceramic. Can anyone confirm the exact part number to the pads I want o get? I tried searching online but it isn't very clear.
In my local store they have what I believe is it: http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...0068&ppt=C0009
But it doesn't mention anything about whether they are ceramic or not.
But when I look up the exact same part number on Amazon, I find it for cheaper:
http://www.amazon.com/Wagner-QC465A-...ar=1&carId=001
And it does say they are ceramic but it doesn't list a 1998 LX as being a compatible vehicle, just EX repeatedly on the list. I'm thinking it is maybe a typo and they will in fact fit my car?
Thanks

Okay that's weird...both the QC273 and the QC465a show up on Amazon as fitting 1998 Civic's but not LX's.....and the 273 is much cheaper than the 465a. Can anyone else confirm?

I can confirm 2x. The part number I gave you fits my 98 LX and my cousin's 98 CX. Bought and installed both of them.

Get the Akebonos just for the minimal brake dust only. Your wheels will thank you. These things stop on a dime and last forever. No fade. These are all I've been using for the past 10 years.
