Default Replace MAP sensor?

Recently in my 1994 Civic EX (160K miles), the check engine light came on.

The DC auto inspectors would not even touch it for emissions inspection until the CEL light issue was resolved. The guy over at the Honda shop (small indie shop) in Fairfax VA had a look and reported that I needed a new MAP sensor. The cost was $500.

I thought $500 was a litttle too much for a MAP sensor. I am thinking about looking for a used MAP sensor. Is this an easy part to find? The shop guy said he would have to special-order it. I am thinking junkyard.

Since I am way out of my league here, can some of you obi-mechanics kindly advise? Is half a grand typical for this part? Is it futility to search junks for MAP sensors? 500 buys a LOT of beer (and diapers too).

Thanks in advance.

Yes they are expensive. Go to any junkyard that is pick n pull and put one in your pocket (junkyards will not sell you map sensors). Most civic ones are universal. Also check the HT classifieds.
