Default removed stock muffler?

Hey what's up. I got my civic ex about 6 months ago. The kid I bought it from cut off the muffler at the axle. So i drive around w/out a tailpipe in the back and my gas mileage is about 21-24 mpg. Is not having a muffler bad for power or gas mileage? It is pretty loud but i'm saving up for a swap so I don't want to spend the $500 for a cat-back. Thanks for the info.

What in the hell did you just say??? Seriously, I would not do it, just because it's loud and can eventually lead to carbon monoxide poisioning (because the exhaust gases are trapped under the car and can seep into it at stoplights.) But to answer your ?, try something else, people run open headers at the track to gain hp...so running mufflerless shouldnt help or hurt you either way really.
