really bad gas mileage on engine swap

really bad gas mileage on engine swap
I recently swaped my motor in my 95 civic hatch cx from a 1.5 70hp motor(that was on it's last leg with 500 000km) for a d15b sohc vtec motor(130hp)
I also changed the ecu from a p06 to a p26 and wired the two wires for the v tec. I also had to change the distributor because the origanal one didn't fit. The car runs like a dream, the v tec is working, but I'm only getting about 300km per tank, compared to the 700km per tank I was getting from the origanal motor. I have traveled down pretty much every avenu I could think of. Changed the plugs, wires, feul filter changed gas and I havn't been driving the hell out of it. Something is missing! I know the km sound outrageous, and this isn't normal for this or any honda motor. This is costing me about $30 every 3 days(just driving to work) Could someone please help? The car has mods, like full exaust, feul rail and filter, and air intake but I doubt that has anything to do with it, the same mods were on the old motor with no problems.

Re: really bad gas mileage on engine swap
First you need to detail how many gal/liters you are using exactly for the 300km. MPG = Miles/KM Divided by gals/lit.
Based on your numbers of 300km on a 10gal tank that would give me an estimated 18.6mpg which suck big time if that was the case.
First I would recommend you to check would be the spark plugs, no not to change them just examine them. How does it look? Here is some reference http://www.spark-plugs.co.uk/pages/t.../diagnosis.htm
Second, check your timing on the dizzy and your timing belt.
If you timing belt is off then it could explain why your car is running rich hence a black plug. Also since it's a motor swap, do a compression check for reference and write down the numbers for future reference.
Third, take a quick peek at your P26 ecu and open that baby up to see if there are any mods just to make sure.
finally, you may want to change the CX exhaust manifold to something more like a header type exhaust cause that is really restrictive on a Vtec motor. Rewire of the O2 may be required if you do this.
GL and see if any of these helps.

Re: really bad gas mileage on engine swap
Thanks for the advice. The plugs I have been monitoring, they look normal, gap is good. I already have a full exaust done to the car, performance headers all the way to the muffler. The p28 thats in there origanlly had been chipped from the guy I bought it from and he took the chip out. Maybe that has something to do with it. I have another p28 kicking around, I'll swap that. I have one more question, is the p28 the ecu that is designed for this motor or does it use a p06? Will the motor still run with a p06(properly with v tec working)?

I havn't checked the timing yet, I put the other p28 in and will monitor it in the next day or so. If the timing was off wouldn't the car run rough idle?

i would contact phearable and have them make an ecu for your "setup." Or try to get the car at least street tuned by a reputable shop.

Re: really bad gas mileage on engine swap
making an ecu sounds and probably is very costly, second I live in a town where tuning is done by the ownwer, I took my car into a tuning shop and thats where my problems began. (If you want something done right, Do it yourself) I have had nothing but bad experiances with tuning shops and 10 years of good luck when I do it myself. What about Hondata?

http://www.phearable.net/shoppingcar...vtec-p-31.html
http://www.xenocron.com/chipped-obd1...e4216d2a045baf
Both of those options will be much cheaper than going with Hondata.
Contact each and speak with them about your issues, they will steer you in the right direction.
Oh and you mentioned you have a adjustible FPR, what is your base pressure set at ?

Re: really bad gas mileage on engine swap
I changed the ECU it seems to be a little slugish, also The feul problem is still there, still sucks. How do I know for sure the V tec is working? Is it possible the feul guage isn't working? I can put about $30 Canadian to fill the tank, but I swear the old engine I could put $40 to $45. Please help!!! This is getting really costly and winter is right around the corner! Also the I used the same O2 sensor from the old motor, does that have to be changed or can that cause the problem?
