Struggles to stay on at idle, then dies!!!
mini me setup..b7 block w/ z6 head. starts up now with out having to give it gas. but when it starts, its really rough with a lot of shaking. starting idle is between 1-15k then it struggles to stay on unless i give it gas. if i dont, it dies! i switched distributors, swapped wires around, cleaned iacv and fitv and nothing. timing is on point so i am fresh out of ideas! im using my stock p06 for now.
i have searched and done just about everything that i could. please shed some light on me...

sounds like a fuel problem man... are you getting enough, fuel pump priming correctly, fpr, injectors maybe too.

Suscribed. Wana see how this turns out. My friends h22 lude is doing the same thing. Could it be that the timing is off on the dizzy?

Re: Struggles to stay on at idle, then dies!!!
The crazy things is that im not getting any CEL! I am using the d16z6 dizzy with my b7 cap. the b7 had only 56xxx miles on it when i swapped it. when i turn it over, the fuel pupm primes and the main hums. you can smell fuel, not heavily but a decent amount. i am still using the b7 intake mani and injectors, could that be a problem? i checked to see if dizzy is 180 degress but as you may know, it wont fit like that. I m about to start her up again right now and see.

So what's your timing set to? What do the plugs look like? Are they wet with fuel? Does the engine smooth out when you're on the throttle?

i set the block to b7 timing and the head using the z6 timing. the plugs are a couple of weeks old, they are not soaked with fuel, but a little bit. and yes the engine does smooth out once i raise the rpm's. but if i dont apply gas, it will stutter then shut off.

i actually just made a thread just like yours, so im gonna tag along and see what people says. whenever i start it up, its gets wicked shaky than dies if i dont put it into gear.. it aint timing thats for sure, it might be the fuel pressure regulator

ok..i just took my vavle cover off to see if its mechanical or something. notice a milky substance and smelled it....fuel/water and oil. i thought it was just oil and water, but an old, old mechanic tasted it and said fuel was there too...

If you keep running that engine, you're going to spin a bearing. Take the head off and have it decked and check the deck of the block as well while it's apart.

ok..i took the head off and the block is still pretty decent. the block had 40xxxx on it when i got it 3 months ago. i had it cleaned and checked before i dropped it in. pretty much the same. the head doesnt seem warped. i have another head that is definetly warped because it is rocking while sitting on the block and this one is flush. but i know you cant really tell just by looking. so im getting another head today and get it pressure tested and cleaned.

Just take the one you have to a machine shop. They'll put a machineed straight edge on it and check the clearances.
