Stock retainers generally have the main advantage of greater longevity when compared with even treated titanium retainers. For 8000 RPM's, the reduced weight of titanium retainers really won't be of much benefit, and honestly even Crower springs are a bit of overkill. What cams are you planning to run?

Ah, I didn't realise it was a SOHC. In that case, especially if you're running an aftermarket cam, I'd probably upgrade the springs. My suggestion would be to pair it with springs from the same manufacturer.

Is it a big deal if I don't? I heard Crower made some pretty strong stuff, that's why I thought of going with them.
Also, go with retainers?</TD></TR></TABLE>

Mainly because it generally simplifies things and avoids the issue of trying to match the cam with the proper springs. This isn't to say that other springs won't work, but in that case you would want to look in to things like seat pressure, bind height, tension, etc. and make sure that they're appropriate for the cam. Valve springs, like cams, are not "one size fits all".

As for retainers, I'd stick with stock.
