Rattling heat shield.. Can I just remove it?

Rattling heat shield.. Can I just remove it?
The heat shield between my cat and the bottom of my car is rattling something nasty. Can I just remove it and go on my merry way or do I need to replace it?

it's no problem to remove it but have you tried bending it out of the way first? that might be easier.
