Default Radiator problem

Ok the "setup" is a d16y7 automatic

A couple of months after i received my car from getting it fixed from a accident my radiator is disipating steam(when warm). Looks like steam or the radiator is completly dead. I changed out my fluid and flushed it all out and filled up w/Prestone.
Also the fan never comes on when the car is warn either. Could this also be another problem that i have to shell out more money into my car.

It won't matter if your radiator is brand new, if the fan doesn't come on then the engine will overheat. If the engine overheats long enough then you'll get a blown head gasket, then your oil and coolant mixes in the combustion chamber and is ignited with the air and fuel thus you'll get bluish white smoke coming out of your tail pipe. Even worse your cylinder head will have some warpage, this causes the head gaskets to never properly seal.

To test if your fan is working properly you'll have to hack into the two wires that connect to the radiator, usually these two wires are on top of the radiator close to the radiator overflow tank. Don't cut them off to test, just remove the outer material on the wires to expose the copper wires. Then you connect one wire from the postive battery terminal to non-black wire, then connect another wire from the ground terminal on the battery to the black wire on the raditator. If your fan comes on then it means that its working properly and the problem lies elsewhere. If your not sure what you've just read then have an experience mechanic do this for you.

It could be a bad thermoswitch, but just to make sure you'll probably have to test it. The testing procedures are found in a service manual. Or if your like the other thousands of people out there who keep the auto parts business goin strong, just replace things until is solves the problem. Hope this info helps.

i went through all this crap and it just turned out to be
the fuse, yeah, stupid on my part, but I didnt know the
fan had a fuse, and never even thought about looking.
so check the fuse, mine was in the engine fuse box (92cx)

also, not having a fan isnt as big of a problem as everyone
makes it sound like. I drove around for months without
one, the only time it ever got above the half way point was
when I left it running without driving when I was messing with
some interior stuff.

oh, and the fan dosnt come on unless you are going under
30mph, anything above that it shuts off, because its not needed.
it has to get to half way on the temp guage to turn the fan on,
maybe your just paranoid because of the steam.

what part of your radiator is the steam comming out of? maybe
a bad radiator cap?

the steam comes out of the radiator cap and the middle of the radiator. The fan does come on now after checking it but the upper radiator hose heats up really bad.

they ve got some of this stuff that looks like copper flakes at Walmart..im going to throw some of that in old volvo..its suppose to seal small leaks in that might be in the radiator as well as the seals in the motor..ur best hope is that the leak is in ove of the hose s or clamps. in which case just replace them

did you read what he said above you?

I would first try getting a new cap, if thats really where the
steam is comming from. The hoses can be extreamly hot,
like hot enough to burn your and a bit, and it still wont be
hot enough to click the fan on.

Is the temp guage over half way, and its still not coming on?
