quick valve adj. question- doing this right now
ok so im adjusting my valves, which apparently were wayyy too tight. And im just wondering if im putting the feelin in the right spot.
Im putting it between the lobe and the orcker arm, but not from the spark plug side, from the valvespring side, if you know what i mean.
I just tight the screw a lil, put the feeler in, retighten, etc until i feel some drag between the lobe and rocker arm.
Is this correct? Is it ok to feel from the valvespring side? I cant really get the feeler ina good position from the sparkplugs side...
please help

i'm guessing this is on a B series engine... so the method should be right.. just make sure you're not measuring the gap while the cylinder is TDC and the valve is closed... meaning you are not measuring on the protruded part of the lobe
a lobe looks like this (> you wanna measure on the ( part and not the > part.. if you know what i mean
check out the c-speedracing.com website... it shows how to do it on a B series if i remember correctly

ok so i just adjusted them from the spring side for all 4 cylinders, .008 on exhuast and .007 on intake
the ticking is gone but now it seems like im running rich? My car is blowing out light gray smoke which gets thicker if you rev it hard? did i misadjust the valves? or is it just cause its cold outside?

it might have been slightly blowing smoke but it seems like its blowing noticeabley more now, especially when you give it gas.
But it is like 40degrees here

ok so i took a drive and the smoking went away
but when i came back i was listening to the idel and it sounded mostly fine except for the occasional "pop pop" like a muffled pop, like a backfire or something?
Could misadjusted valves cause this?
