Default Questions on Speedometer malifunction

I have a 97 civic ex i had to replace the transmission and during the process my buddy forgot to unplug the speed sensor when we dropped the tranny the wires came out of the plug. speedometer worked before tranny swap, i found the correct order of the wires from my friends civic put them back in the plug and plugged it into the VSS , speedostill didnt work.I have replaced the VSS with a brand new one and still nothing trace wires through harness for the first 4 ft and have found no breaks in the wiring. i though maybe i fried the gauge cluster so i swapped my gauge cluster with one that worked and my speedo still does not work..... Does anyone have any other ideas as to what it may be is there more pieces i could replace or what is there a fuse or relay i dont know about thank you very much.....
