Hey,

I've recently got my engine fixed up and im just wondering if i NEED to get tuned the car with either Hondata or something else.
Im currently running a Spoon ECU, and 98 octane, on following setup:

- Mugen Airbox
- Mugen 4-1 Header
- Mugen Twinloop
- Mugen Stage 1 Camshafts
- Wiseco 2 Layer Head Gasket
- Wiseco High comp Pistons (it says +0,5 on the recipe on description, thats it.)
- Spoon Titanium Valvesprings
- Eagle Connection Rods

The engine should have 11.7.1 in compression, if i remember this correct.

Its just gotten out of the engine workshop with a complete rebuild.
But this is the parts you need to know about i suppose.

Can i run this with a Spoon ECU and 98 Octane?
The engine rebuilder said i should be ok if i used octane booster, but i heard so much crap about it and im not exactly sure about what i should do.

Any suggestions or anyone who knows exactly what i should do about this?

I always thought when you were doing internal/head work it would be wise to get a tune

^^^x2 once the block has been opened a good tune will make all that work worth wild i dont think your gettin everything outa the motor just running the spoon ECU and if your engine builder said you SHOULD be ok thats a sign in itself id tune to be safe

Anything that changes timing, fuel, or compression is a best idea to get dyno tuned. Stock ecu can not make up for the difference.

^^^^ agreed. most anything except I/H/E needs to be tuned.

If you can't afford a dyno tune, get a street tune. Going cheap, you'll need a wide band O2 sensor, chipped ECU, Moates Ostrich (only favoring this because of price), and a laptop with Crome downloaded. You could get a chip burner, but the Ostrich allows real time changes. And most importantly, someone who can tune who won't lean the motor out at 10lbs of boost... happened to a guy I know... he was not happy.

Well, i can afford hondata, and tuning, just not at once since the engine rebuilding cost me a butload of money. So what im asking really is, is it alright to drive without tuning for now? until mid summer.
The engine builder says that im fine without the tuning as long as i use octane booster?
Im not sure what you got in the us, but according to him i can get something that works on a local auto-parts store.

Tho im just asking here since im out of clues and i wanna make 100% sure i can be fine until the summer without the tuning.

Bare minimum if you were to drive around untuned is get a wideband 02 sensor and watch very carefully your a/f. Honestly i wouldnt drive the car until you could afford the ecu and tune, just save and drive the car the way it is now (assuming your dailying the car now and the motor is on a stand)

Not sure if this is legit for this application but www.phearable.net in florida can tune your ecu to your engines specs. Check it out or wait for feedback. I had a stock CTR tuned and it runs great.

The car is currently not used at all, its been parked in the garage for half a year now without an engine. Thanks a lot for the advices, im going to speak with the engine builder again and show him this thread, plus another one i wrote on the norwegian honda forum.

Well the problem about getting my ecu "chipped" by phearable is that i only have the spoon ecu, and not a oem one. Basically i promised myself i wouldnt use more money on the car until summer, and i really need it as a daily aswell. So im not exactly sure what solution i should go for, as it seems i probably have to buy hondata, or something else.

Haha, well i would acutally be interested in a trade for reals IF my engine rebuilder says i should definetely get a new ecu or a basemap of some kind. I dont really care about if theres any price diffrence, i just want my car properly working.
