Default problems with my cx clutch

i had 3 people plus me in my 93 cx today and when going up a hill the car almost wouldn't run, it was as if it wasn't takin the gears. then a burning smell came out of the clutch, the car kept doing the same thing on even and flat streets as well. it wasn't taking the gear it would take a little while before actually starting to run. then i parked the car for a couple of hours, and when i drove again it was back to normal, the clutch was workin perfectly again. what could have caused this? is it a bad cltutch? or was it just to much weight and too much of a hill for my 70 stock horsepower cx engine?

it could be that your clutch is running out since you said that you smelled somthing burning. its burning your clutch. and what gear were you in when going up the hill. i have a vx and when i go up a hill i usally put it in 2nd since the gear ratio sucks. cx ratio sucks too. not the weight but its your clutch.

i was caught on a red light in a big hill, so the problem started when waiting for the cars in front of me to move, they were stoping and going because there was a lot of traffic, then the burning smell came, and from there the car wasn't taking the gears correctly until it cooled down

you keep your foot on the clutch pedal too long as you are giving it gas because you dont want to roll back so your riding the clutch. I guess lol thats my definition of "riding the clutch"*shrugs shoulders*

Had the same problem on my old 89 Mazda 323. After driving around a couple of hills, my clutch wouldn't engage and go into gear. Let it sit for a couple of hours, took it out for a spin..turned out to be okay. Never drove on hills much after that, but the car drove normally.

you over heated your clutch. thats why it wouldn't completely engage and hold the flywheel. Its the same thing with brakes, if they get to hot you get brake fade when the friction material gets too hot and you can't stop. If your driving up hill, i hope you use your parking brake when your engaging the clutch to move forward to keep the car from rolling backwards. If your rolling backwards down the hill and u let the clutch out to move forward thats a lot of friction needed to get it going back up the hill.
