Only the distributor from a Z1 or a D16Z6 will physically bolt right up to the head. You should be able to just swap the innards of the Y7 distributor into the Z1 distributor (if you have it). That way it bolts up and you have the correct plug.

The Y7 distributor should not be bolting right up to the D15Z1 head; the bolt pattern should be different. Are you sure that it's bolting up to all 3 holes? If it is, are you sure it's a D15Z1 and not a D15B7? If it is indeed a Z1, are you sure it's a Y7 distributor that you're bolting up to it?

As long as its in the right place it should still start, but you wont be able to set the ignition timing properly without using a Z6/Z1 distributor case.
