Default Problem with remote keyless entry (i searched)

This is the problem:
I have just installed a aftermarket sony head unit. I have installed this
same head unit into my '99 with no problems. My car now is 97 btw.
Everything was fine, except the remote keyless entry doesnt work at all.
The switch inisde the car opens and closes perfectly so its not the fuse.
I tried idsconnecting the battery, and that didnt work. Every other power
thing in the car works cept for that. So im thinking it was to do with the head
unit. Thanks for the help.

In the 96-98s the keyless entry was integrated into the radio somehow. Im not all that familiar with it, but it was run through the headunit. If you got rid of your original headunit, you will be getting rid of your keyless.

theres extra wires coming from the headunit and from the wiring harness.
maybe these wires can be used to hook up the keyless entry? thanks

Id suggest wiring the power/ground/switched power off to the original headunit it parallel with the new headunit and could retain your keyless.

I dont really know what you mean from the original headunit,
because the original headunit isnt there. its like this:
civic wires --> civic plug -->wiring harness plug --> wiring harness wires
--> aftermarket headunit wires --> aftermarket headunit plug --> headunit.
Thanks for the help btw.

Okay, somewhere in that setup you have, perhaps in the wiring harness, clip the casing off of the power, ground, and switched power wires ( I find scoring them with some wire cutters and then using a knife to cut the small section of sheathing off works best) and then solder some wires that will go to the original civic headunit. You may need another plug though.

thanks man i found out the problem. The guy gave me the wiring harness
that fits every vechile powered by honda. unfortunately, that wiring harness
only goes up to 1995 civics. it still fits, but it doesnt support the keyless entry.

To retain keyless in your car, you need to bury the factory radio in the dash and give it power (constant and switched) and ground. I find it's easiest to either a) remove the center console and stuff the radio ***-end up behind the cupholders, or b) leave your stock radio in place, and mount the new one down below in the pocket behind the cupholders.

This is correct. ^^^

You should have a wiring harness that allows both the factory and the aftermarket headunit to be installed in the car. I opted for option A from the above options. This hides the factory unit but you can still reach it if you need to reprogram your keyless buttons.
