Please help...need H-T advice w/dilemma!!??
[I've done a fair amount of searching on this topic, so I'm asking based on researching.]
To begin with I have a 2000 cx hatch. A few days ago my exhaust started making noise and today it fell off. Basically, it's rusted at the b-pipe. I'm in med school at the moment and i don't have a lot of cash. Honda wanted to charge me $300 for b-pipe and install after looking at it, but I don't want to get a new b-pipe and something else starts to rust. So, i'm thinking about replacing the whole system from the header back to avoid future drama. I would like to increase performacne slightly, although I do realize this is a 1.6L vechicle that sees autox on weekends. Keeping my circumstances in mind...
Ok, so the questions are:
(1) if i go aftermarket would i need to purchase ex parts (header/cat/exhaust) for my car? Will it bolt up correctly?
(2) if i decided to go oem could i use an ex header/cat/exhaust or si for my car?

don't go oem, just buy a catback and a high flow header or go to your local muffler shop and they should be able to hook you up....

i'd suggest going with a CTR exhaust.
inlinefour and passwordjdm have them. both sell around the $300 range

i couldn't be happier with my CTR exhaust on my 99 hatch... so quiet, yet larger than stock.

Go aftermarket, and there are many many cat back systems that bolt up to the stock header.

My buddy put that setup on his '97 DX hatch. It was alright, but the best mod he did was an EX tranny. I'd say fix your problem the cheapest way possible and just save your money for something better, like a swap or something.

I'd look at the entire exhaust system to see what actually needs replaced. The CTR stuff you are looking at is used, I wouldn't buy used exhaust parts if I was in your shoes. The CTR header won't fit at all and the cat won't fit unless you modified your current exhuast a lot. I'd just go to a local muffler shop and have them bend you a new exhaust (maybe 2" dia.) from the downpipe back. Shouldn't cost more than $250 depending on the cost of the muffler.

To answer your question, you can put any exhaust system designed for your hatch that is designed for a 96-00 hatch. Since you will be keeping your stock exhaust manifold, so the secondary 02 sensor won't be an issue.
I'm considering moving over to a CTR exhaust myself, even though it will require some custom work to make it bolt up.
