PLEASE HELP!! EK HATCH WITH B16 ENGINE TICK
Ok I need some honda experts to help me out on this one. I have a 2nd gen b16a (jdm) in my 99 EK Hatch. When i bought the car it ran good and everything seemed good except for one thing. It had a very annoying tick coming from the engine at all RPM speeds (it would get faster at higher rpms).
After doing some research i figured it would just need a valve adjustment. So i took it to my mechanic and told him i wanted to have the valves adjusted because it had this ticking sound coming from the motor. He told me that the valves were adjusted way to tight by the previous owner but he did put them to spec at .006 intake and .007 exhaust ( so he had to loosen them just to get them to spec). NOW the car ticks even louder that the valves were adjusted back to spec!!! He also mentioned the timing was off and he had to set that back to normal.
SO someone tell me how this could be possible. More noise after valve adjustment?? It just doesnt make any sense to me.
So recap- previous owner had valve lash set to almost nothing(too tight) and engine had ticking
after adjusting valve lash to spec- louder ticking!
Someone please help on this one and any info would be much appreciated.
ALso keep in mind I am aware of the LMA'S making this noise but why would it be worse now?
